The Esther Scanner has been very busy!
/When Esther The Wonder Pig fell ill in 2017, there was no CT scanner large enough in Canada to scan her. Realizing that this was an issue bigger than just Esther – affecting any large animal in need of medical imaging, you, our very generous supporters, helped us raise the $650,000 USD needed to buy a Pegaso - the world’s largest CT scanner.
Oh, the places we’ll go
At the time we could never have foreseen the role that the Pegaso scanner would play in many medical advancements in both the world of veterinary medicine as well as human medicine. Housed at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, Canada, the scanner is not only being used as a diagnostic tool, but also in clinical trials to advance the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Why we do what we do
In August of this year, the President of HEEFS Board of Directors, Krista Hiddema, had the honour of speaking at the 2019 Animal Rights Conference in Washington. In her talk, which you can hear in its entirety here, Krista passionately shares stories from her own life and relates them to the incredible story of HEEFS, the Esther Scanner and why we do what we do.
Sit back and relax…the next 20 minutes might just change your life. Listen now.
