BFFs at HEEFS
/We all know that families come in all shapes and sizes, and so do friendships! It’s truly amazing to watch what can happen when animals are allowed to be themselves and form bonds of friendship and love that are meaningful to them.
BJ and Escalade
Perhaps no two residents at HEEFS define the term “bonded pair” as much as BJ and Escalade. Already living together and bonded, they became the first residents of HEEFS in 2014 when their original people could no longer care for them and they had to be rehomed. Separating them was not an option. Even now, BJ and Escalade are always kept together even if one has to go off for a health check, or to have his hooves trimmed, the window into their barn remains open, so the other can keep an eye on his friend. This goofy pair spends every waking minute together running, wrestling, napping and just hanging out, enjoying everything life has to offer.
Moby and Donna
It was love at first sight. Moby was infatuated withDonna from the very day they met. We’re not sure if Moby has a history as a “lady’s man”, because he came to us without any background, so it’s possible that Donna is his first girlfriend. Moby is super protective of Donna and always stays close by her side when they go out for walks or to explore the grounds. These two are inseparable, even living together in the same coop.
Jean Le’Claire and Cora
Jean Le’Claire was kept in a small crate in someone’s house his whole life. He hadn’t met any other chickens before coming to HEEFS. When he arrived, Jean Le’Claire was in poor shape, but he quickly gained some weight and his health improved. Introducing him to the other chickens was a bit awkward because he had no idea how to act. Enter top hen, Cora, who took him under her wing and taught he all the “chicken” things he needed to learn. The two quickly became the “it” couple of the coop and today, Jean Le’Claire is head rooster of the flock.
Hercules and Mercy
There’s something extra special when a brother and sister have a close bond. Hercules and his sister, Mercy share such a bond. They are the closest pair of siblings amongst April’s kids and can always be found hanging out together or snuggled in close when it’s time for a nap.
Debbie and Genie
If goats could play Bridge, we’re pretty sure these two would be partners in a regular Tuesday afternoon game! Our two beautiful, elderly goats, Debbie and Genie, have been the best of friends since they arrived at HEEFS in 2015. Where you find one…you find the other. And when it comes to naptime, the two can always be found snuggled up all close and comfy.
